Dear Honesty

Dear Honesty,

I’m a bit timid when it comes to you
Don’t get me wrong. I’m in love with you.
I believe in you, but it seems when I bring you around, others don’t respond warmly.

“Please put the mirror down,” they say.
“You’re not lonely. You’re strong.”
“It’s not personal.”
“I wish you would’ve told me sooner.”
“Time heals all.”
“Please leave honesty at home next time.”

But you see, dear Honesty
We are one. Intwined.
I don’t want to leave you at home.
While it may be more comfortable and fun for others, it would not be true to leave you out.

So, I’ll continue on my way
Hand in hand with honest words
Trusting that those who desire the same
Will welcome us with open arms.
